Good Leaders are Good Listeners

Our greatest strength will be our ability to listen...

Hollywood, California

“Being a good listener is absolutely critical to being a good leader; you have to listen to the people who are on the front line.” – Richard Branson ~ Founder of the Virgin Group

Our greatest strength will be our ability to listen. About only reason it is not, for how much we learn will be the deciding factor for how far we will go. And though there may be some to glean from everyday happenstance, when we foundation ourselves in the knowledge of those around us, we no longer go it alone.

Not only do we show respect by allowing others to speak first, we show our leadership. What unites us most is knowing that we all have a say in what happens; we all want to feel heard. It is when we collaborate that our best ideas are discovered because no longer do we expect them to only come from the top.

In order to lead properly, we need to know what’s going on the ground floor. Those who are interacting directly with our customers are collecting massive amounts of data, whether they realize it or not. It’s our job to extract that information so that we can provide our clients a better overall experience.

No longer must we guess at the solution the consumer wants if we just take the time to listen to them. They’re telling us exactly what they want, it’s on us to put ourselves in position to be a part of the conversation. It’s not about whether we like what we hear, it’s about what we do with the new intelligence to make ourselves better for our customers.

When we take the time to listen, we learn as much about ourselves as we do the world around us. The days may be cold, but how we react to one another need not be. When we take the time for one another, there is no one that goes unheard.
